Christian’s school artwork

When Christian first went to school, he’d come back with a folio of art and craft at the end of every term, after the meet-the-parent session.

I would put them in a box, but the amount of space devoted to his artworks started becoming outrageous. I read from another mummy online that a good way of preserving the art works is to take a picture of them.

So. Here is Christian’s artwork from Term 2 and 3 this year -

2012 Term 2 Frog jigsaw and bird house

Frog Jigsaw and Hanging Bird House

(Teacher D taught Ch to draw the frog, and made use of the hanging bird house to teach them multiplication..”how many groups of 4 ice cream sticks make up the 20 that we need for the 5 sided bird house?”)

2012 Father's Day Present

Father’s Day 2012 Present – Keychain

(Teacher D used one of those plastic pieces that shrink after being baked. P was so touched he felt like crying when he saw the details of the stick figures.)

2012 Term 3 Ladybug paperweight

Ladybug paperweight

(P dismissed me with nary a glance when I asked him if he wanted a paper weight, but took a second look and said “Now that’s a different story” after I told him it was made by his son. Ch painted a stone black, waited a few days for the paint to dry, then did the red portion, waited another few days before painting the spots and sticking the eyes on. He could recognise his paperweight from his classmate’s, thanks to the contours peculiar to his stone. Calista threw the paperweight onto the floor and one of the eyes cracked. Kind Teacher D replaced it with a brand new eye.)

2012 Term 3 Spider Magnet

Spider Fridge Magnet

I thought this was such a cute addition to my fridge! The body was made with some dough / clay that P and I can’t identify. Art materials have certainly advanced in leaps and bounds since our primary school craft days.

2012 Term 3 butterfly and caterpillar edible dough

3 Butterflies and 1 Caterpillar

These were made with the edible dough that is also used in making snowskin mooncakes. Teacher D told me that Christian was so busy eating up the dough she had to tell him to stop lest he finish it all up with nothing to show/ bring home.

2012 Term 3 Turtle

Papercraft Turtle!

If you’ve not already guessed, the theme of these two terms at school is Animals..they learnt about insects and reptiles..i wonder if i am easily impressed, but i thought it was rather creative to overturn a bowl and treat it as the turtle’s shell. I also happen to like the little furballs used for the turtle’s feet and head.

This ignorant mum was taught the difference between turtles and tortoises today – apparently tortoises have flippers, whilst turtles have feet. Ch also told me that tortoises have flatter shells. =P

I am pleased with the items he has made in school so far. Sad to say, I think he’s way better off in school with Teacher D than being homeschooled by uncreative me. I saw a work-in-progress two days ago, they are decorating their own visors by drawing the national flag and colouring it for national day. Will update this post when he can bring his visor home!

Update: 2012 Term 3 Nday Visor

They got to choose what they wanted on the visor..Ch chose jet planes, his friend Daryl had a tank on it..
