I was trying to teach Christian the usage of "prefer...to...", and so I asked the following sentences to teach him the proper sentence structure.
Mama: Who do you prefer? Popo or Gonggong?
Ch: Popo!
Mama: Oh.. you prefer Popo to Gonggong?
Ch: Yes.
Mama: Hmm..who do you prefer? Ms Divine or Wang Lao Shi? (His form teachers for this year)
Ch: Ms Divine!
Mama: Oh really? You prefer Ms Divine to Wang Lao Shi?
Ch: Yes i like Ms Divine.
Mama: Oh..one last question. Who do you prefer, Mama or Daddy?
Ch: Mama! I love mama.
(Daddy goes HRMPH while driving in front. Mama is pleased and chuckles.)
Ch: Mama is my favourite. I like jelly too.. mama...
Mama rolls eyes at how his mind is wired...the word "favourite" inevitably triggers food memories. =7
He proceeded to give me the scoop on who's whose favourite in school - "Adam is my favourite in school. when i want to play with him, he doesn't say no. Brayan and Jia En too. Andrew only likes Vera. Vera is his favourite. He only plays with Vera. My favourite is Adam, Brayan and Jia En...." (Mama worries about how he'll take his change of school after we move house.)
